A major change is coming to respiratory therapy credentialing.
Beginning in January 2027, the new Respiratory Therapy Examination (RTE) becomes the primary examination pathway for earning the CRT and RRT credentials. The NBRC has confirmed that the new examination will contain 185 multiple-choice questions, including 160 scored questions and 25 pretest questions, with two cut scores determining CRT and RRT credentialing.
That means respiratory therapy students need an entirely new generation of exam preparation materials.
